About
A Pilgrim's Fitness Plan — Gut Nisdorf 2026
What This Is
A pilgrim's fitness plan — rooted in place, rhythm, and the body you already have.
This is not a wellness blog. It is not a fitness programme in the conventional sense. It is a live record of a man of 64 walking into regeneration — physically, philosophically, and in place — at Gut Nisdorf, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, on the Baltic coast of Germany.
It is being lived before it is published. What you read here is happening now.
The Pilgrim
Michel Garand. Canadian, living in Brandenburg, Germany. Farmer, systems thinker, builder of things that take longer than expected and matter more than anticipated.
64 years old. A background in biological vegetable growing, sheep husbandry, and community-based economics. Currently building the UBEC Platform — Ubuntu Bioregional Economic Commons — a blockchain-based environmental monitoring system integrating IoT sensors, place-based data, and regenerative community networks across the Baltic Sea and Brandenburg region.
On March 26, 2026, he boarded a train from Brandenburg to Gut Nisdorf, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. The train departed at 07:11.
He arrived with a candle made by his own hands a year before he knew what it would become.
Why This Pilgrimage
In March 2026, the woman he had been with for fifteen years told him she felt nothing for him anymore. She wanted to end it. He accepted. He respected her decision.
Inside, he was devastated.
He wanted to leave. To go somewhere as far as possible. He considered Africa. He considered going back to Canada. Instead he sat with what the devastation was actually telling him — that thirty-one years in Germany had produced children, projects, communities, platforms, and a man who had learned to build things for people rather than with them. That something in him needed to change before he could re-enter any of it. Not just a relationship. The projects too. The way of being in the world.
Susi's decision was a wake-up call.
A few days later, an email arrived through a newsgroup he had been part of for years. Achim Ecker at Gut Nisdorf, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, was looking for someone to help with the growing of organic vegetables. Michel wrote back immediately.
That is why he is here.
The Seven Pillars
In the seven days before the train, seven pillars were hewn — one per day, in sequence, each one possible only because the previous one was complete.
| Pillar | Date | Name |
|---|---|---|
| I | 19.03.2026 — New Moon | Unconditional Love |
| II | 20.03.2026 — Spring Equinox | Anger |
| III | 21.03.2026 | The Diamond and the Seed |
| IV | 22.03.2026 | The Threshold |
| V | 23.03.2026 | Surrender |
| VI | 24.03.2026 | Der Boden |
| VII | 25.03.2026 | I Am That I Am |
Ehyeh asher Ehyeh. Moses at the burning bush. The ground beneath all names. Nobody becomes I Am. The seven pillars were built to arrive at the point where no roof is required.
They hold up twelve weeks of practice at Gut Nisdorf. And simultaneously they hold up nothing — open sky, a verb that names itself, no ceiling required.
The Place
Gut Nisdorf is a certified organic Bio Hotel (DE-ÖKO-039) on the Baltic coast of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Germany. It is not a working farm in the conventional sense — it is a place of practice, regeneration, and community. The garden is real. The work is real. The Baltic light is real.
The name carries history. Ritter Johannes von Nisdorf (Johannes de Ost de Neslestorp), 1302 — the earliest recorded holder of this land. Seven centuries of ground.
The pilgrim arrives to work in the vegetable garden, to walk the Baltic landscape, to do the twelve phases of regenerative physical practice that the seven pillars make possible.
The Twelve Weeks
The Fitness Plan runs twelve phases — each one mapped to a sense, a TCM organ, a stone, a wisdom tradition, a movement. Together they form a complete arc:
Awareness (Phases 1–3) → Acknowledgment (Phases 4–6) → Attitude (Phases 7–9) → Action (Phases 10–12)
Simple is not easy. Simple is what remains when everything unnecessary has been removed.
- Morning sun salutations — 10 minutes before coffee
- Evening full-body stretch — 10 minutes before sleep
- Garden work — functional strength, daily
- Walking — 3 times per week, Baltic landscape
- Cycling — 2 times per week, into the national park
- One longer walk or cycle per week — 2 or more hours
The body you already have. The ground you are already standing on.
Why This Is Published
Four honest reasons.
To make the work visible to those who matter. To hold the pilgrim accountable to clarity — writing for an audience sharpens what private documents do not. Because somewhere there is a person at 03:00 in the morning who cannot sleep, standing at their own threshold, who needs to see that it is possible to cross. And because a body of work, honestly published over twelve weeks, becomes something.
The Infrastructure
This site runs on EU-sovereign infrastructure — self-hosted on Hetzner servers in Germany, under German and EU law. Your data does not leave the EU. No advertising. No tracking beyond basic analytics. The pilgrim controls the platform.
This is also a prototype. The same infrastructure that publishes these daily entries will eventually carry data from IoT sensors, soil monitors, and LoRaWAN nodes across the UBEC bioregional network. The pilgrim is the first sensor — human-generated, place-based, timestamped content flowing through infrastructure built for the long work.
pilgrims.ubec.network is part of the UBEC Platform — Ubuntu Bioregional Economic Commons — a project building the technical and philosophical infrastructure for regenerative community networks in the Baltic Sea and Brandenburg region.
